One of the most important steps in the TOEFL exam preparation process is to have a good understanding of the test format and what is expected of you. After completing this step, you can start studying for the different parts of the TOEFL test.

Independent Speaking
The first two questions are free speech questions. This section asks questions about your personal experiences and opinions. For example, "What is your happiest childhood memory?". After seeing the question, you have 30 seconds to prepare. After that, you will answer the question given to you within 45 seconds.
Integrated Speaking
The next 4 questions are integrated speaking questions. In questions 3 and 4, you read a short passage and then listen to a talk about that text. After that, you answer the question. You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to talk.
In the last two questions, you listen to a lecture or talk and answer a question about them. You have 20 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak.

Integrated Writing
In this part, first the text is read, then the lesson on the same topic is listened to. The lesson and the text either say the same thing or they say opposite things. Then a composition of 150-225 words is written that interprets these two. Its duration is 20 minutes.
Independent Writing
In this section, you are expected to write a 4-5 paragraph essay of 300-350 words in 30 minutes. The use of conjunctions and good word choice in this section increases your score.
